Eleri Angharad releases emotional new single ‘Blank Walls’
Swansea-based singer/songwriter Eleri Angharad has just released Blank Walls, a new song infused with country & pop elements. The single has been written solely by Eleri Angharad and was produced and recorded by Lee House at Fieldgate Studio. Blank Walls is a a harmonically pleasing song that showcases her stunning songwriting skills. With this song, she tells the story of a fragile relationship, something we can all relate to. Speaking about the track, the Welsh performer says: “Blank Walls tells the story of a chaotic relationship. A series of fragmented moments you're constantly trying to string together into something solid". 2019 saw Eleri burst onto the country scene with the release of her debut album Earthbound which has since racked up thousands of Spotify streams – an impressive feat for an independent artist coming out of Wales. The title-track was even A-Listed on BBC Radio Wales showcasing the support she has across the nation. Last year also saw the Swansea artist touring the globe on a headline tour playing intimate shows across Europe and even played Glastonbury Festival. 2019 was a huge breakout year for the artist who delivers a mix of country, and pop sonic sounds throughout her musical output. The European support and radio play signals that 2020 is going to be a big year for Eleri Angharad. Blank Walls is now available on all digital platforms! Read the full article

USA/FRANCE: Hailey Tuck-Nouvel EP Coquette (2020)
Hailey Tuck
Nouvel EP Coquette
Between jazz and pop, sadness and softness, a tribute to the 1920s in the background, the Austin-born singer reveals her rich universe and proves her talent as a multi-faceted composer. Nominated at the Grammy Awards for her latest album, Hailey Tuck reelases an EP that highlights a unique talent in the world of jazz.
"Je me suis souvent laissée aller à la rêverie et j’espère que les arrangements apportés et l’ambiance générale de Coquette traduisent cet état" explique Hailey Tuck pour présenter son EP enregistré aux Studios Fieldgate au Pays de Galles sur lequel on remarque une belle reprise de Juste Quelqu'un de Bien d'Enzo Enzo. Coquette nous propose un doux flashback dans les années folles. On découvre en premier extrait A Bit of You.

Amber Fieldgate releases striking cover video
Amber Fieldgate. Credit: Kevin Mark Pass.
Johannesburg based singer-songwriter Amber Fieldgate sings her heart out, impressing audiences the world over with cover of AVICII’s Addicted To You.
Although a full-time student at TUKS, Amber Fieldgate’s passion for the arts is not taking a back seat. Still actively pursuing a career in music, the Sandton-based aspiring singer songwriter is working side by side with Jolanda Becker Vocal Lab and recently went into studio at The Hit Lab to record a striking cover of AVICII’s ‘Addicted To You’.
youtube
“Addicted To You is one of my all-time favourite songs,” Amber says. “I really enjoyed covering it as an acoustic version as I feel it gives the song a completely different tone. I also love singing it because it complements my voice nicely.
“Working at The Hit Lab was an absolute pleasure and definitely my new favourite place to be. I am looking forward to putting out some more music through the course of the year.”
Only 20 years old, Amber is petite, shy and timid, but not to be underestimated. Her vocal aptitude is clearly evident – and she already has an array of accolades to her name, in both singing and drama.
In 2015, Amber worked with hit songwriter and producer Nate Butler and recorded her first original title ‘One More Time’.
Come 2018, Amber will join Howie Combrink in studio, working on some new music.

UK:The Dave Jones Quartet- Keynotes (2017)
‘KeyNotes’ has a partly new line-up for a very different album to Jones’s previous Quartet studio releases. This time it’s a more open-sounding set – less arranged and without the extra forces of the strings, brass, and additional players (who will return on a future album), with more space for concentrated improvisation by the Quartet. It’s still based on Jones’s tunes – all new ones, composed over the last few years, but it’s a sound that’s closer to the way he’s been playing in other bands and on lots of pick-up jazz gigs, particularly over the last couple of years, and he says “…it’s also closer to some of the jazz that I’ve particularly enjoyed listening to over the decades.” This new album (recorded at Fieldgate Studios in Penarth, Cardiff, using their Fazioli grand piano) features extensive liner notes by award-winning saxophonist and author Simon Spillett, who describes the album as “…arguably Jones' finest – and to some ears potentially most accessible - outing to date.” Saxophonist/flautist Ben Waghorn brings to this Quartet his vast experiences from a career playing for NYJO, Tommy Chase, Slowly Rolling Camera and Keith Tippett, to The West End of London as a pit musician, and also various TV and film credits as a session musician. He has also recorded/performed with bands including Goldfrapp, Kasabian and Portishead. “Waghorn reaches peaks of intensity that make one wonder why he continues to remain something of a best-kept secret in British jazz.” (Spillett, 2017). Drummer Lloyd Haines was a Yamaha Jazz Scholar in 2013 and has played with John Law, Kevin Figes, and Brandon Allen amongst others, becoming something of a regular at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz club. Bassist/vibraphonist Ashley John Long continues to impress with his virtuosic playing, also with John Law and Brandon Allen, and with Geoff Eales, Alan Barnes, and Scott Hamilton, amongst many others (see next page for further press quotes). Since pianist/composer Dave Jones’ last Quartet studio releases in 2012 and 2010 (the critically acclaimed ‘Resonance’ and ‘Journeys’ albums), he’s released ‘Live at AMG 2014’ and ‘Postscript’ (a duo album with Ashley John Long in 2016). He’s also been touring and recording internationally with other bands in India, France, Ireland, and the UK, and has been composing music specifically for TV and film, having tracks used in ‘The Big Bang Theory’ (U.S.), the drama ‘Las Aparicio’ (Mexico), and ‘Location, Location, Location’ (UK). Further quotes from the ‘KeyNotes’ CD liner notes: “Listeners wary of original compositions – and with Jones they needn't be – will find that there are enough echoes of things they already love to draw them in. The individual players also walk the line between tradition and individuality with equal success.” “… just hear how Jones spirals outwards from his spare, melancholy opening theme into a solo that builds a formidable head of steam.” “Long time Jones associate, Ashley John Long - soloing on both [bass and vibraphone) and managing to sound as if Ron Mathewson and Bobby Hutcherson have magically coalesced as one man.” “In a land not exactly going short on drum talent, Lloyd Haines is a real discovery. His section work throughout this album is a thing of beauty, as is his always thoughtful soloing…” (Simon Spillett, Jan 2017). Other press quotes: “Dave Jones on piano I think is, a terrific player, and he’s clearly studied Herbie Hancock…” (Dr. Ian Smith, BBC Radio 3 'Jazz Now' 2016). “As a pianist, he swings with the panache of McCoy Tyner…” (Robert Shore, Jazzwise 2012). "… swinging post-Blue Note tunes that are exemplars of musical logic, integrity and effective variation" (Mark Gilbert, Jazz Journal 2012).

Dominic J. Marshall & Friends
The Triolithic
Challenge Records, 2016
Dominic J. Marshall, piano & keyboards
Glenn Gaddum Jr., bass
Jamie Peet, drums
Sam Vicary, bass
Sam Gardner, drums
Lars Dietrich, alto sax
The music of the young pianist composer Dominic J Marshall first entered my consciousness in 2012 with the release of the outstanding album “Icaros” on the F-ire Presents label. This was followed by the similarly assured “Spirit Speech” on the Seattle based Origin Records in 2014.
Both albums revealed Marshall to be both a formidable keyboard technician and also a composer of some stature. His pieces are full of clever ideas sourced not only from the worlds of jazz and classical music but also from the more contemporary realms of hip hop and electronica. Working under the name DJM Beats he has established a parallel career and a different fan base with a series of recordings in the hip hop style.
Still only in his twenties Marshall studied classical piano for ten years under the tutelage of his father before completing the acclaimed Jazz Course at Leeds College of Music, a fertile breeding ground for young contemporary jazz musicians. He then relocated to the Netherlands to study for his Masters at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam, graduating with Honours in 2012.Marshall now divides his time between the Netherlands and the UK and recorded both “Icaros” and “Spirit Speech” with Amsterdam based musicians.
In February 2015 I saw him perform in the company of the British musicians Sam Vicary (bass) and Sam Gardner (drums) at The Hive Music & Media Centre, Shrewsbury at a gig organised by the Shrewsbury Jazz Network. Their repertoire included a number of then new compositions, many of which now appear on this latest release, credited to Dominic J Marshall & Friends.
Both Vicary and Gardner appear on “The Triolithic”, which is a very different record to its jazz predecessors. Here Marshall brings together the two sides of his musical persona, mixing the acoustic piano jazz that distinguished both “Icarus” and “Spirit Speech” with the hip hop inspired electronica of DJM Beats. There is some precedence for this on the cassette only release “Cave Art”, featuring both Vicary and Gardner and credited to the DJM Trio, an album that saw the threesome performing instrumental covers of twelve tunes by famous hip hop artists.
“The Triolithic” was recorded at two separate sessions in the Netherlands (Power Sound Studio, Amsterdam) and the UK (Fieldgate Studio, Cardiff). Vicary and Gardner appear on the six British recorded pieces while Marshall’s ‘Dutch trio’ of Glenn Gaddum Jr. (bass) and Jamie Peet (drums) appear on the remainder. Thus on the twelve track album the rhythm duties are divided pretty much equally with alto saxophonist Lars Dietrich also guesting on one Amsterdam recorded piece. Marshall himself deploys an impressive array of instruments and other devices and is credited with; piano, Fender Rhodes, Septavox, soft-synth, percussion overlays, clavichord, Wurlitzer, bass programming and drum programming.
Marshall describes the concept behind the album title thus; “The Triolithic was a time when humans lived in direct symbiosis with the natural world. We didn’t create barriers between ourselves and other life forms, nor did we presume to own anything. We lives the holy trio of love, poetry and rebellion (to borrow from Octavio Paz) and worshipped trees, our dreams and the sun, How do we get back there?”
“The Triolithic” represents another strong offering from Marshall and finds him breaking new ground as he brings the differing aspects of his musical personality together utilising two different line ups and mix of acoustic and electric instruments. I’m variously reminded not only of E.S.T., Phronesis, GoGo Penguin and other contemporary European piano based trios but also of the American pianist and composer Robert Glasper, another musician who moves between two separate musical universes but who also makes attempts to merge them together. On “The Triolithic” it’s arguable that Marshall achieves a fuller, more organic synthesis as he successfully blends acoustic and electric sounds, embracing both jazz and electronica within the course of the individual pieces.
As his liner notes suggest Marshall is an incessantly curious and creative musician and a deep philosophical thinker. These aspects of his personality find a voice in the music of “The Triolithic”, an intriguing album that should appeal to all adventurous jazz listeners. There will doubtless be some who will be sceptical about the use of elements of electronica on this recording but the quality of Marshall’s writing allied to the skill of the performances should ensure that “The Triolithic” keeps Marshall’s jazz following well onside while simultaneously attracting new, younger listeners to the fold.
